It looks just like a pendant photo I found on their website, but there's a stamp label Bronze RP at the top of the pendant. The last time I checked, they produce jewelry in silver and gold. Does the stamp mean it's made of bronze?
Is this authentic ammolite? I wouldn't hazard a guess until you get some well-focussed close-ups and more finely detailed photos posted here. From the glare in the photo the piece gives me the impression of a doublet - a thin layer of ammolite, capped with a domed rock crystal. Try looking at the stone from the side. Can you detect a clear "top" layer? It's lovely, much better picture You will find some ammolite links there.
I don't know anything about it, but it is very pretty! I've thought about getting one for my wife. Hey guys, i am not a English native speaker but have some fossil questions that i would like to get some answers. I like ammolite as they are colorful, so my family and friend liked it too, they can be made into great jewelry.
I am living in malaysia, where i come from, it can sell to high prices, therefore i just want to know if it is real or can be fabricate by other method? I have seen an ebay auction selling "cultured ammolite" from India- so I assume it can be faked or duplicated some way by man. Don't know how though. Nice piece.Forgot your password? Ok Ammonite experts, this is an e-bay ammonite that is from Madagascar. I was wondering if it was fake or an actual find. What do you guys think? I think it's a good deal at the moment Firstly, I am not particularly great on Madagascan Ammonites; therefore my determination may be inaccurate. I believe it to be a Perisphinctes which are so frequent that generally they're not worth forging.
I am confident that this specimen is a genuine Ammonite. Perisphinctes aren't particularly rare, and unless they're abnormally large, they don't fetch a grand price - however, I do agree, this specimen is reasonably priced at this stage of the auction. I agree with Joe on the authenticity of the ammonite. They are extremely popular bulk wholesale items and found at all the fossil trade shows across the globe so not unusual for ammonites from Madagascar being sold from another country on ebay.
Speaking of fake looking ammonites I ran across this on the web and it just does NOT look real to me. I know they can get that big Didn't mean to hijack your thread Fossitz! Besides how easily they are holding it up, it looks like it was made out of fiberglass or such and was painted The Perisphinctes looks legit as stated, why would you go thru the trouble of faking one when they are so common and inexpensive?
I see the same thing in some of these auctions. At the show I did see some heteromorph ammonites from Morocco that were apparently completely fake, as if they were carved into a slab of rock and then colored with eg.
I'll have to do a search on ebay to try and find similar examples to show people. What particular ammonites that are actually worth faking?Post a Comment.
Tuesday, September 16, What a fake double-sided ammolite look like. I bought a double sided ammolite stone via e-bay. The photos of the two sides are shown here small photos, same as in the e-bay photos, linked here. After 2nd Dec,link is only here.
Then I found one side is the exactly same as what I tried to buy from the same seller in May large photo, blue one. According to the paypal record, the size is exactly the same.
I gave it up and the money was refunded. Because I like the stone, which didn't arrive, I kept the photo from e-bay. The new double-sided stone was listed around days after the previous list; it means the previous photo was deleted from e-bay.
She seemed to think there is no evidence. I collect both ammolites and ammolite photos from e-bay just for fun. Then I realized that I keep a photo stamp: January 9 : large photo, green one which is absolutely identical to the other side. I claimed the seller. However, the seller claimed that sometimes patter and colour would be very similar, and that they are different.
The same size, same colour and same pattern from the same seller in days??? After I sent the four photos, she claimed that 'I' fabricated the photos on my computer. She also claimed that I harassed her without any reason. Now she changed her words like " they are 2 stones which look pretty much the same.
I want to know if you think they are just very similar or they are identical. Usually they say that there are no two ammolite stones which are the same colour and pattern. So far I have enjoyed buying ammolites via e-bay. I have no reason to fabricate photos. I bought a double-sided stone I believe it is real onepreviously. One side seems very fragile. However, this stone is different.
5 Things to Know About … Ammolite
Both sides seem vigorous, and t he sides are covered by black artificial material ; usually we can see brown natural material. I now believe that making fake ammolite is difficult, but repairing broken ammolite is not difficult although the sides show it including making a new double-sided ammolite.
Anyway, I cannot understand why she continue lying. Posted by WhatHappened at PM. No comments:. Subscribe to: Post Comments Atom. About Me WhatHappened View my complete profile.Ammolite is an opal -like organic gemstone found primarily along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains of North America.
It is made of the fossilized shells of ammoniteswhich in turn are composed primarily of aragonitethe same mineral contained in nacrewith a microstructure inherited from the shell. It is one of few biogenic gemstones; others include amber and pearl. It was designated the official gemstone of the City of LethbridgeAlberta in Ammolite is also known as aapoak Kainah for "small, crawling stone"gem ammonite, calcentineand Korite. The latter is a trade name given to the gemstone by the Alberta-based mining company Korite.
Marcel Charbonneau and his business partner Mike Berisoff were the first to create commercial doublets of the gem in They went on to form Ammolite Minerals Ltd. The chemical composition of ammolite is variable, and aside from aragonite may include calcitesilicapyriteor other minerals.
The shell itself may contain a number of trace elements, including: aluminium ; barium ; chromium ; copper ; iron ; magnesium ; manganese ; strontium ; titanium ; and vanadium. Its crystallography is orthorhombic. Its hardness is 3. The refractive index of Canadian material as measured via sodium light, Under ultraviolet light, ammolite may fluoresce a mustard yellow. An iridescent opal-like play of color is shown in fine specimens, mostly in shades of green and red; all the spectral colors are possible, however.
The iridescence is due to the microstructure of the aragonite: unlike most other gems, whose colors come from light absorption, the iridescent color of ammolite comes from interference with the light that rebounds from stacked layers of thin platelets that make up the aragonite. The thicker the layers, the more reds and greens are produced; the thinner the layers, the more blues and violets predominate.Korite Ammolite Tour
Reds and greens are the most commonly seen colors, owing to the greater fragility of the finer layers responsible for the blues. When freshly quarried, these colors are not especially dramatic; the material requires polishing and possibly other treatments in order to reveal the colors' full potential. The ammolite itself is actually a very thin sheet, ca. Rarely is ammolite without its matrixwhich is typically a grey to brown shalechalky clayor limestone.
So-called "frost shattering" is common; exposed to the elements and compressed by sediments, the thin ammolite tends to crack and flake; prolonged exposure to sunlight can also lead to bleaching. The cracking results in a tessellated appearance, sometimes described as a " dragon skin" or " stained glass window" pattern. Ammolite mined from deeper deposits may be entirely smooth or with a rippled surface.
Occasionally a complete ammonite shell is recovered with its structure well-preserved: fine, convoluted lines delineate the shell chambers, and the overall shape is suggestive of a nautilus. While these shells may be as large as 90 centimeters Most fossilized shells have had their aragonite pseudomorphously replaced by calcite or pyrite, making the presence of ammolite particularly uncommon. Ammolite comes from the fossil shells of the Upper Cretaceous disk-shaped ammonites Placenticeras meeki and Placenticeras intercalareand to a lesser degree the cylindrical baculiteBaculites compressus.
Ammonites were cephalopodsthat thrived in tropical seas until becoming extinct along with the dinosaurs at the end of the Mesozoic era. The ammonites that form ammolite inhabited a prehistoric, inland subtropical sea that bordered the Rocky Mountains—this area is known today as the Cretaceous or Western Interior Seaway. As the ammonites died, they sank to the bottom and were buried by layers of bentonitic mud that eventually became shale.
Many gem-quality ammonites are found within siderite concretions. These sediments preserved the aragonite of the shells, preventing it from converting to calcite. Significant deposits of gem-quality ammolite are only found in the Bearpaw Formation that extends from Alberta to Saskatchewan in Canada and south to Montana in the USA.Supplier Location:. Alas, you'll get fraudulent sellers on every online selling platform That's the way this works.
Ammolite: Meanings, Properties and Powers
The problem is they undersell you, sometimes by a couple hundred dollars. A seller from Canada getting thier inventory from alibaba and not really making it, and Etsy does nothing. They just say well the Chinese company probably stole from them, but you can see the same item on alibaba and several places on the internet. You can say choose your war, but that won't help you keep in business. The reviews they get will tell all eventually, if it is cheap crap, the really upset customers will always write a poor review for them.
Then they will get pushed back to the bottom anyways. Resold jewelry? You can report but you need to include information how you know the jewelry is mass produced. You find resellers on every site.
The best you can do is focus on your shop and make it the best you can so your items stand out to the buyer. Worrying about others only robs you of the ability to focus on your business.
If you reported them, let it go after that. You've done your part to help.
The rest is up to Etsy. Fraudulent in what way and how do you know? If they are advertising something as handmade that you think is mass produced, that might be allowed here.
If the seller designed the item and had it mass produced, etsy calls this seller designed and allows it. If you have seen this piece on another site in multiples, someone on the other site might have stolen the pictures or description. This is not uncommon. If it is an international seller, it may be a problem in translation. Since you haven't bought the item and can't prove it, there is nothing etsy can or will do about removing the item.
